President should freeze gasoline prices

The government has frozen wages and can do this. Must stop gouging immediately. Freeze income of all management teams including bonuses and stock options. This way they can not benefit.<br /><br />I can not imagine that the President could not get Congress to move on this and support. Any increases or violation should be heavy fined, like Increase plus $1,000,000 per offense.<br /><br />Fines and exploitation recovery should go into the relief effort. Yeah I know giving money to those in need is a liberal ideology but let's please agree it is ok on this one. There will be those that take advantage but sooo many need it now.

Try to get on board.<br /><br />Their are major supply bottlenecks right now that cause the price of gasoline to go up. This is very basic economic theory.<br /><br />So I guess those who work for an oil firm and their families should suffer, simply because others are suffering also. \<br /><br />What a way to solve a problem

What we should really consider is regulating everything, because of course the gov and politicians know best. The rest of us are incapable of rational thought and managing our own businesses.<br /><br />I think what you really want and need, but would never admit, is relaxed environmental legislation that would encourage investment in refineries and high priced oil to encourage drilling and exploration. THAT will result in lower gasoline prices for your personal use.<br /><br />Wouldn't want it to cost to much for you to get to work in whatever fantasy land you work in . . .

Why doesnt the government just ration the gas. It would have the same effect (lower gas prices due to decreased demand), except I dont think txwinner would like this solution.<br /><br />Ken

The idea of freezing gasoline prices is probably the worst thing we could do right now.<br /><br />Be honest everyone, gasoline prices have not been keeping pace with inflation over the past 40 years. So why were the prices going up? The price of Oil wasn't going, rather, the TAXES ON THE GAS were going up.<br /><br />All we are seeing here is the price of oil raising to the price it should be due to global demand and just pure inflation. This was going to happen eventually, and guess what - it did. So, we freeze the price of gas. What will that accomplish other than putting a bunch of companies out of business?<br /><br />It is time everyone faced the fact that we are going to pay more at the pump. Its the way it is don't blame the President... blame the world. China is consuming petroleum based products at an ENORMOUS rate. That, combined with the fact that we have been unable to build a new refinery in the past 20 years due to some *COUGH* ahem, unavoidable roadblocks, we are walking into this mess on our own account. <br /><br />Sean

Why stop at just freezing the price? Make it free, I say. In fact, all goods and services should be free. I think TXS should be required to sell us all the gasoline we want at $1.00 a gallon, even if it costs him $2.50 a gallon to produce, refine and transport it.<br /><br />Or. . . make him find oil (cost about $5 million), drill for it (another $25 million), then sell us all we want for $30/bbl.<br /><br />Yup, I like that idea. I will speak to W about it.

You can bet if any other business ran roughshod over the people like the oil companies do there would have been government intervention LONG before now. They engage in price fixing, price gouging....anything they want to do, they do. They were so worried about Bell telephone, so worried about Microsoft...good lord....then the oil companies have total immunity to hold us hostage anytime they desire. There's something very wrong with this picture.

Yes, studied a bit of economics, how about you eeboat. Oh by the way eco is a liberal arts course in most major universities.<br /><br />Do you remember the $2.00 per minute phone call of the 60's. If Exxon-Mobile and their buddies are permitted to control the industry and supply then the forces of a free market can not work.<br /><br />If gasoline prices are frozen there would be no shortage of fuel. There is no huge increase in demand since we invaded Iraq. In fact we control the flow of about 30% more of the oil pumped in the world.<br /><br />If it is supply and demand and you great American, non tree huggers, no global warming, envirnoment is safe all is well, liberals hate Christianity folks, tell me why the oil already made into gasoline jumped $.20 last night. That oil price was established months ago. <br /><br />Let me help you, it is called price gouging and you and I are the suckers suffering for it.<br /><br />The governement should break down the oil corporations just as they did the telephone conglomerates and electrical conglomerates and let capitalism survive.<br /><br />Oh yeah my wife has royalty checks from old family land that have risen quiet nicely the last year.

If you really want the price to go down, stop buying any of it, and that will reduce demand.<br /><br />Before you say "I cant", remember the bicycle will get you there.<br /><br />In all honesty, I could get up at 4 am and ride my bike the 40 miles to work, and then get home by 9 pm. Ken, Monopolistic industry. Not driven by supply and demand. Must either regulate or break it down into competitive parts. It can be done to benefit the country. Remember the Bell companies, the electric companies, now why not Exxon-Mobil the largest corporation in the world by 10.

Bad idea<br /><br />The big difference between bells, for example and oil is that we are dealing with a finite supply with oil---with the advent of new technology we have virtually a limitless supply of telephone connections.<br /><br />Technology, and alternatives, as well as conservation, will kick in when the price dictates it. Remember it was Al Gore who originally proposed $3 a gallon gas for this exact reason
