Re: Power tilt and trim issue

when a relay hums it means theres a voltage drop. can you post the diagram and a picture of the relays so we can see what you have. wire gauge to the relays or a connection could be the problem but with out seeing what you have then its just guessing

i think 1984 70HP is a 3w motor. the wiring diagram is for a 2w motor. try disconnecting post 87a on both relays.

14g wire is pushing your luck (ok if its real short to where its getting power) but if you are thining the wire to make it go in a 18g connector then thats a real problem and will cause a voltage drop when loaded

Re: Power tilt and trim issue

RRitt beat me to it unplug the post as he says and try. But humming buzzing any sounds of that nature is like previously said not enough voltage to open or close the relay. Try feeding power from the battery directly to the switch side before the relay and see if you get a response up or down. Eliminate weak or faulty contacts.

Could it possibly be the sending unit. What exactly does it do I noticed a small break in the wire

There is what I thought was a kill switch that after looking online I now realize if is a sending unit I have nothing hooked up to that yet it has 3 wires but the t&t motor only has 2

2 wires I believe

ok if it only has 2 wires then the drawing is correct if it has 3 thats a diffrent drawing. 14g if the wire is not to long on the 30-87a-87 terminals. do not try to jam 2 wires in one female spade connector unless its a yellow (10g) connectors for single wires should be blue (12-14g). wires on 85-86 can be smaller.
