Good evening,
I have a 1994 350 magnum Mercruiser stern drive and after replacing the block two years ago due to freezing I ran the boat with no problems. This year after I started the boat and get running about 2500 RPMs, the hose coming out of the cooler which is attached to the stern breaks right at the base of the clamp. I thought I had a weak hose and shorten it and after raising the RPMs back to 2500, it broke it again in the same spot. Is there a chance something is restricting it and causing it to blow in the same spot every time. I have tried repositioning the cooler but it blows every time in the same spot, could the cooler be plugged as I don't know if I drained this last year or not? Thanks for your help.

Re: Power steering hose

Welcome to iBoats . . .

My thoughts and things to check are:

- hose is deteriorating

- oil cooler is clogged

- one of the other hoses is clogged and the weakest hose (with the clamp) is blowing out.

Do you still get good power steering before it blows out?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Pull the cooler, 'n Look.... My guess is it froze, 'n split...

The oil free flows from the cooler, back to the pump's res... low to no pressure...

Re: Power steering hose

I bypassed the cooler and ran the engine at 2500 rpm and did not blow the hose, I have the feeling my cooler may have frozen and perhaps restricted the flow of fluid through the cooler. It gets warm but not hot enough that it burns, I will take it to the lake to verify it doesn't blow again and order a new one. Any suggestions where I may buy one for a good price/
Thanks you!
Raul

Ayuh,... I haven't looked to see if iboats has coolers or not...

Personally, I'd find a used 1....

Or of course, there's always Mercruiser...
