There is no grease fitting on trim tube.

What causes this noise?

Don't see it as the trim, need grease on the pivot

no grease fitting on either.
strange that I can put in and run the boat for a while and the noise stops, then the boat sits for about 2 weeks and the noise will start when trimming in the garage.

Agree, no grease fitting
Guess Merc figures it doesn't need them. The bearings are hanging and the pop is when it releases.

Because the bushings get lubed by the water. My brother in law would dip his fishing reel in the drink if it squeaked. It worked till he got home and cleaned/lubed it up later.

Guessing Delrin or nylon 6 bushings.
No lubrication required.
Will “chatter” until broken in
