Poppet Valves 93 Merc Black Max 150's

I have 2 questions 1) Can you run these motors w/out the poppet valves?
2) Should the water coming from the telltale be hot. Thanks in advance for your input.

Can you, yes. Should you, no. Only a "hot rod" type coolin' system can be managed without a popet.
"steaming hot". No. but your hot and someone else's hot may not be tha same. Should be warm ta very warm. No poppet will be cooler.............
