Pontoon trailer bunk material

My trailer bunk indoor/outdoor carpet covering is showing wood beneath and is due for replacement. What about HDPE (High Density PolyEthylene), puckboard as a replacement. Seems slippery enough and tough. Any thoughts?

if the wood is good, simply re-carpet.

HDPE has no strength, so you would have to mount it to something like wood.

My first thought is that something like that might be TOO slippery! If you have easy access to a reasonably priced supply of something like that, and you generally keep the boat well secured to the trailer, I'd be tempted to try it.

Thanks for feedback. I was going to leave the wood after I confirm it is still ok and surface it with the plastic type material. I get a good price break on material.

I did this to my toon bunks and works great. I used a wide piece of garage door trim from home depot and cut it to size and used upside down so the groves are up and the wood grain side down. I mounted them to the bare boards. I have done this on 2 trailers now and doubt I will ever go back to carpet or rollers.
