Along similar lines (and i was thinking of performing this test myself) is strength. Is a faster cure stronger that a slower one. It seems that some of the batches I made that kicked quickly were stronger than those that I mixed with less resin and tool longer to cure. Nothing scientific, just seemed that way.

After thinking about this I think I may do some tests myself. Since this resin doesnt have wax I would like to see how well it bonds to itself with and without sanding. I would be curious how long it stays "green" enough to create a good bond without sanding. Anyways it will be something to keep me entertained during the winter.

If it feels tack free you need to sand it. End of test.

Longer and shorter gel times don't necessarily mean more or less strength. This assumes you stayed within the recommended catalyst range for the temperatures at the time. Over and under catalyzation will lead to poor cure and lower physical properties. Also temperatures that are too low can do the same thing.

Just trying to verify all this important info.

1. If it is still "tacky" it is not necessary to sand prior to laying another layer of "1708" or "CSM" or whatever?
2. All poly resin will dry "tack free" sooner or later?
3 If it is no longer "tacky" it must be rough sanded (60 grit) prior to laying additional layers?

1. correct

2. Saying "all" may not be totally accurate, but lets say 99%, the typical resin sold retail will though.

3. Sanded yes, the exact grit can vary from 16 to 80, the coarser the better though.
