ok so this weekend we were camping out at the back waters of tippy dam 2 sites togather we took the 1 and some other people came in on the 2nd site later. there is a relitively small beach 40 foot long and theres logs littering the beach beyond that so only 40 feet to beach the boats and swim.

theres at least 20 feet between my boat and the end of the nice sand. this guy puts his shirt and towel on the bow of my cuddy cabin and then swims with in 5 feet of my boat at all times. he even hangs around my stern anchor that i had thrown out to keep the back end from going into shore. it was about all i could do from blowing a gasket.
has any one had this happen where people think they own part of your boat?

i seen a post awhile back some guy put his kid into a boat at the gas station without asking the owner, really rude.

went to the doc's awhile back my blood pressure was 156 dont think this type of stuff is helping it.

Take a Prozac and chill Dude! This kind of thing isn't worth getting all riled up about.

Just simply walk over to the guy and strike up a conversation, you may find that he isn't a bad guy and you might even make a new friend.

... or you could just kindly ask him not to put his stuff on your boat because you don't want to be responsible for it, and if he wouldn't swim so close to your boat in case the wind came up and accidently blew your boat into him.

Can top that one!

Had a guy open my cooler and help himself to a beer... Right in front of me! I asked him very politely what in the sam hell did he think he was doing? His response, and I quote "You didn't bring these to share"? I was dumbfounded and pissed at the same time. I had never seen this guy before in my life.

I loaded up and moved to a different area. If I had stayed I would have decked him on principle!!

In your situation, I have to agree with the second part of Jigngrub's post. I would have asked him not to do that for his own safety and your piece of mind. As for his stuff... I might have dropped it in the water when trying to hand it to him... whoops.

Then again, I have anger management issues sometimes...

Good luck!!

Would be too much to simply nicely ask him to move his stuff off your boat, then forget about it? Or maybe that would be seen as a serious challenge to your manliness?

I guess it's no surprise that there's never been a boating ad campaign (like the old Honda motorcycle ads) that said "You meet the nicest people boating"!

I think I would have just asked him why he put his shirt on my boat?

If he can't take that hint then maybe be a little more direct.

One of the administrators where I work has this way about him where he will ask you if you got something done and if you can read people even a little you know that that's how way of telling you to get your bit on gear. I like this guy a lot because he let's you know exactly what he expects without being confrontational. (people who can't read him may not get along with him as well as I do).

Had a youg lady take he bathing suit offhanging from the cleat on the bow, gently pulled ancor and motored away. Was funny when she realized what happened and had to go ashore. Caused a stir on the beach.

+1 to Fishing Dude: I was thinking as I read the thread "why not just pull up anchor, fire up and start pulling out?"

"What's that? Oh, your stuff? It's fine where it is - I should only be gone a couple hours." :D

I would have walked over and grabbed his stuff off my boat and threw it in the sand and walked away, If he didnt get the message there, we would have had a discussion.

sw33, I'm with you on this, get your crap off my boat, my Harley and my wife, When I would like a closer look or I feel the need to do anything out of the ordinary with someones property I ask first, if your camping neighbor had asked first I bet things would have been much different, if you ask first you will find me very courteous.

A stranger helping himself from my cooler? yeah were going to have a pretty big problem, I really dislike thieves

Probably not a LEGAL reason for you to shoot someone....probably, ok maybe....

All depends where you live! Some states allow you to use deadly force to protect your personal property. Beer is definitely personal!

Re: poeple putting stuff on your boat at a beach?

he should have asked first. He probably didn't because there is no harm in putting a shirt on a boat, and he didn't think a rational human would start shooting guns over it. If he had asked, 95% of boaters would say, no problem. because it isn't.

you should have asked him politely not to swim around your stern b/c you were concerned about the anchor. Based on his response (cooperative v. ahole) you could bring up the shirt.

Taking beer out the cooler is a whole nother thing.

Thats the point, if he had asked, no problem, but he didn't and if you or I needed to do it we probably wouldn't do it unless we asked.

As for the beer, I'd shoot him.

I'm guessing he accomplished exactly what he meant to accomplish. He probably thought you were in the wrong for beaching your boat where you did.

Not saying this is the case, but the story could be very different from the swimmers point of view. Imagine the story from several families swimming at the beach when some butthead with a boat decides to come right in the middle and park his boat where we were swimming. Again, not saying this is the case, but is it possible that there was a limited area to swim on the beach and parking the boat there was an infringement on the people who were allready there? People have their favorite swimming areas. Is it possible this is one of the few accessable from land?

Just offering a possible alternate side.

I've got it. He was trying to impress a girl so he could get some so he put his shirt on the boat swam next to it for a while and then acted like he had a boat so he could impress the ladies!!

You have to admit his actions make perfect sense in this scenario:cool:

Re: poeple putting stuff on your boat at a beach?

Being from Michigan and knowing about Tippy (or at least the salmon and steelhead runs) nothing shocks me aboiut this location and goofy people. Back in the day when salmon would be thick up in the river, my friend was fighting a salmon and tangled with the next guy down the line. The guy eventually pulled a gun and ended up taking the salmon when it was landed by the both of them. I have had stuff stolen out of the truck in the parking lot too. Nothing shocks me about that place, the DNR writes snagging tickets by the pound. They just seem to atract the less than fun kinds of people all around that area. Havent been there in 10-15 years because of all the crap that happens. Michigan has so many other nice places to go, just aviod it.

Lets put this into perspective.

You have 40' of beach to share between two parties. That is very small area to begin with. But then, one of the parties park a boat in the middle of it and declare a no-swim zone around it. That is certainly accomdating to the situtation.

If indeed there was only 20' between your boat and the other end of the other beach, your no swim zone encroached on the other parties 1/2 of the beach and you where the one in the wrong.

I have to agree. Because if I were to beach my boat there, it would have been way off to one side so majority of the beach is available for someone else to beach on. That will protect at least one side of my boat, and hopefully the other people will beach a fair distance away.

I anchor/beach/dock my boat like I park my car.... As far away from everyone else as possible. Big spaces make for good neighbors.
