I need help with this problem. I have a 03 tracker boat with a 60 hp tracker by mercury and the problem i cant understand is the alarm from under the console goes off when i turn the key from off to run/start and it stays on as until i turn it back to off. I left the key on for a long time to see if it would stop but it didnt. Now this boat hasnt been ran in about 2 years and i just got it and not even taken it out. The motor start and runs for awhile then dies. I put new gas in but it may still have old gas in it. I know if it overheat the alarm will sound constant but i havent even ran it long enough to even get close to hot. Please help someone. Thanks

I had a problem on my 1994 40 HP Merc where my overheat alarm module sounded and would not stop. It was a bad module, it had to be replaced. Cost about $80 including labor. Just a thought. If it started doing that when you were not using the boat, I would agree with the above post that said to check the wire.

Well guys i appreciate your help on this matter. But after a quick call to Bass Pro Shops, it turns out that the reason the alarm was going off was because the oil tank plunger is sticking. They told me to check to see if that was it by unplugging the wires that come out from under the oil tank, and sure enough the alarm went off.

I have this same issue happening. When I unplug the wires from beneath the oil reservoir it quites. Where is an oil tank plunger and how did you fix it?

Hi, I just got my 96 60 hp out of shop after having the same problem, it was caused by a deterioriated oil line coming from reservoir. Hope that helps you also.

You probably need to replace the tank. The problem is often that the magnet falls off the bottom of the float. The foam float still goes up and down but the magnet is laying in the bottom. It is inside the tank and is not repairable.
