Please Help!!1978 35hp Johnson Starter Problem.

I have a 1978 35hp johnson, when i turn it over its starts fine,but when the motor is going the starter sometimes shoots back up an hits the flywheel making a real loud ping noise.What could be causeing this?could i have the electrical messed up or maybe the solenoid is bad???Please help i have a fishing tournament next weekend an i have to get it fixed.Thanks!!

Sounds like you have a short in the switch itself or the wires coming out of it. Look for a chaffed wire.

Are you talking about the key switch might have a short?could it maybe be the wires to the solenoid are wrong?Thanks for the response

I don't think that would be the problem unless it's been happening for a while.
Did you change the starter solenoid out?
If No then you have a short some where in the lines from key to starter or a faulty solenoid.
Check the wires first.

thanks but i fixed it the the wires were all in the wrong places.Thanks again:eek:
