The factory for some reason ran pinstrip before they cut out the transom, therefor the seal is touching it. I have the oppertunity to remove it now before it is put back together, is this necessary or am I just paranoid?

If it really bothers you then put some clearcoat on it and be done with it.

If it's a new seal, I'd get rid of it!

What would clear do for me. I observe the pinstripe being on the sealing surface and was asking if I need to remove it before the drive & engine get re-installed. I can;t fathom why the factory left it there, unless 1.) they don;t care, 2.) it really makes no difference and I am being overly paranoid.

You're being paranoid. You could sand it down if you want, but the gasket should seal against whatever small deviation in smoothness that the pinstripe creates.
