Re: Physics stinks!

I know what you mean when it comes to theory over practical knowledge.

It was not till someone showed me practical applications for all the higher math equations did it start sticking in the old grey matter.

(look at building a road up the side of a mountain and you have to figure out slope and back fill, etc)

Re: Physics stinks!

In college many years ago the electronic calculators were the new thing. I only had a slide rule and was proud that I learned to use it. However the pace of the class was based on the quick answers the guys with calculators had and I very quickly lost pace and got behind with the class.( you dont get behind in a physics class or its hopeless) I had to drop the class or fail and ended up changing my entire curriculum because of it.

If you go into engineering, you will use a lot of it...trust me. Plus, even if you don't exactly use it(coefficient of friction calcs kinda useless for a EE for example), it teaches you to solve problems which is what engineering is all about.

Taking classes like these exposes you to various different sciences and helps you decide what you are good at and what you aren't. For example, I started out as a chemistry major and switched to electrical engineering when I just couldn't stomach organic chemistry.

You have any idea what field you might want to go into?

Sucks to be in that situation. Usually its the University profs that suck @#$. After a 13yr hiatus, I went back to school last year to finish up my degree. Took pre-calc as a refresher, then took Calc I from a total loser prof. He'd do a limit example, and do 3-4 operations in his head. We'd ask how he got from 1 to the next, he'd quip "I did the operations in my head .. can't you guys do them in your head?". Little @#$%#^$%#%@#^. Luckily I had some credits I could transfer, so I'm taking Calc II at the community college (excellent prof).

though i was thinking about taking stats next year....i took a look at the book last year....forget that lol.

Stats was difficult. However, with that one, I found that if I really busted butt, I could figure it out. Ended up with an A. Unfortunately with Calc, I just couldn't "get it".

physics honestly does not make sense. he goes right into something that i've never anything before in my life.

he said that he's changing the class around after break. IB together and AP together. i'm in the IB group....so much to learn....

Oh man, physics was rough. X and Y were fine but when they threw in the Z it was all over

Don't even get me started on calculus. Calc was the death of me in college.
I couldn't even get X and Y. I had to hire a tutor to get a D in a college physics class. I took the lowest math class I could to meet my degree requirement (technical math) and after 3 tries I think the teacher passed me out of sympathy.

Well, I'm sure you can get some help outside of class too. If you need help with anything specific feel free to PM me...

gives you an idea of what other students think of him lolololol.....

I found it interesting that the ones who rated him low were also the ones with the worst spelling and grammar.

The ones who rated him highly also seemed to be the most literate.

Perhaps the problem is more a function of how much effort a student puts into all of his his studies than it is the teacher?

Sentences like these above do not bode well for you in your future scholarly endevours .....

You mean endeavors right?

Just giving you a hard time! :) I was thinking the same thing about the ratings though. The ones that rated him low didn't sound too scholarly to me.

lololol i don't look back at what i type most of the time....maybe i should:D

yeah, i guess i should put more time into physics from home. honestly, the class is such a waste of time. i should've taken bio or something lolol.

"when the tough get going, the going get tough" or something like that.:D

Ditto. My calc prof WAY back in college passed me because she (this is a real quote) "never saw someone work so hard to fail so miserably." She said she'd pass me if I promised never to put myself through that again, even if it meant changing my major (and it did).

Oddly, physics and chemistry came really easy though - I didn't have to work particularly hard at them.

Re: Physics stinks!

I learned from watching Nova and other programs--this gave me the interest in it. Then I started reading up on it (practical usage) after that going back to the school books was much easier.
