Re: pet dilemma , what would you do?

He definitely looks worth saving. GSD are almost human. My GSD loves and protects me and follows my grand children everywhere, keeping them away from the road and the pond. You can not put a price on that.

a bit of a funny story.......the brother inlaw and his wife have a little 6 year old girl. they come to visit quite often, and every time they come over they call ahead to make sure frank is " out of the picture".( he just loves kids/people) earlier this fall they dropped by to pick blackberries from my patch, and just showed up. i was out back with frank, and he darted out front to see who was here. they are not dog people, and had a look of panic on thier faces but stayed and picked berries. 15 mins into the visit frank was literally picking berries with them, and the little girl got bored and started running around playing with him. about an hour into the visit the little girl whispered to the wife " aunty karen.....can i come live with you?.....i just love frank!)

edit: now when they come over, they call ahead to make sure frank will be available .

what was the issue to begin with?mine(dogs) was a large tumor on belly .worked good for 1 year then it was back worse than before .glad the dog is ok just remember he,s old and issues will arise more frequently now, after all in our terms he,s a geriatric.looks like he,s a little ticked off at the world right about now, lol.

not sure of the spelling but, he has/had "piranal fistula". had the same issue when he was a much younger guy, but a long regime of meds fixed him up until it came back 10 years later. meds werent helping at all this time.....just making him a zombie.

Yeah, the same with me. When the grandkids ask to come I think it is more for them to see the dog than me. I have had 5 GSDs over the years and all of them were gentle but very protective of our family. When we spend time at the lake house my GSD sleeps with my 2 young grandkids which makes them feel secure. It is amazing to see that natural instinct for them to protect. When my kids and now my grandkids would get near to the shoreline "Kelly" & now "Shatzie" would get between them and the water. She will gently grab their arms and pull them back.

Looking back on the money we spent trying to help our dogs stay healthy until old age and diabetes took its toll I will never for a second say it was not money well spent. Good luck to your doggie as he may very well have several more good years ahead for him. Sure hope so.

Good to hear he's back to doing what he does best, Chil-axing w/ 1 of his peeps:

Awesome news, really glad to hear it.

I find that they let us know when it's time. Never easy, but part & parcel of pet ownership.

We also KNOW that when their time w/ us is over, it allows another in need of a good home to join our family :)

Majic (pix in my sig line) can't ever be replaced, in my home or my heart & soul, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for another. Dirty, stinkin rotten, spoiled little bugger:

Bonnie Bleu ^^^ just did her bedtime round & round on that corner of the couch, & with a great sigh tucked her nose under her tail. D-O-N-E for the night.

My condolences to you and family, I know exactly how you feel. It's been 7 months since I had to have my bestest buddy put down and I still miss him something awful.

:rip: Dang, now we've lost 2 great Franks...

You have the Admiral and my condolences.

We also had a nearly 16yr run w our 1st pet, and I can still see her padding and pawing around our yard in an odd little goose step after she went blind.

As I mentioned in the post above, we have a pet policy of only adopting shelter dogs, and when 1 leaves us, sometimes much too early, it allows us to rescue another in need of a good home. Doesnt eliminate the missing of a dear and beloved companion, but it does help.

Tell Frank to let Majic, Deke and Kaisha know we miss them.

Sorry for your loss Tim.

Sorry to hear that, I know there are two very rambunctious Golden Retrievers that welcomed Frank today, my Roxi and Cinni always loved meeting new friends.

My heart goes out.

Glad you two had some extra time together NWCove. Sorry for your loss. I know it is tough.
Still can't get used to how quiet our house is since Lucy isn't there.
