Re: People are just dumb!!

What about the guy in the Cadillac Escalade with the 23' Wakeboard Boat with Speakers on the tower?

Oh wait, I am him and can by myself do the deed and vacant the ramp in 5 minutes either way. I like to use the prep area to load/unload... wipe down, dry off, and cover the boat... strange concept.

I wanted to make sure I was clear, I thought I was, I posted a follow up saying I have no problem with the tow vehicle, boat, etc...it is the people on the ramp that don't do what you do, drop the boat, move on, pick up the boat, move on.

You clearly stated that you use the STAGING area. Thank You.

Re: People are just dumb!!

these type of idiots are in all forms of life. they dont know of the culture or the unwritten rules that the culture lives by. they think just because they have the money to buy a pwc or a boat they are boaters. they dont understand they lifestyle, because it is not their lifestyle. i remember when i was a kid adn i would go with my grandpa or dad on trips and something happened there would be plenty of trucks to stop and help. but now with all the 3 week courses the industry has gone downhill fast. because the people have a liscense doesnt make them a truck driver. same thing in the motorcycle culture and you see it in the boating culture as well.
if you enjoy a recreation then you should also enjoy helping others in that recreation and should go out of your way not to impeed others on their persuit of their happiness and they should not impeed on yours.

Well Said!

Last time I ran into something like this I even asked the guys to help me load the boat and they were more than glad to and after pulling it out we had a brew and talked about boating for 20 minutes.

Do you speak Spanish or did you use sign language?

Re: People are just dumb!!

I know people always say we beat a dead horse with this topic but it truly is one of my favorites.

The stupidity and discourteous nature of people never seizes to amaze me. The lake my wife and I boat at has a rather large ramp. Its big enough to have three boats aside launching all at the same time. You can actually pull head first down the ramp and then make a u-turn, then back into the water.

There will always be that "one" guy, usually pretty wealthy (appearing) with a 65,000 landrover, 30 ft Cobalt sitting on the ramp either, if putting in, loading his boat on the ramp, putting people in it, putting plug in, pulling straps off, hooking up batteries, etc. Coolers, kids, rafts, vests, whatever.

If pulling out, doing all the opposite and worse. He then feels the need to wipe the boat down, dry it off etc. I even saw some guy yelling at his wife to put a coat of wax on it.

I will then ask them politely to vacate the ramp so other's can use it. He always gets indignant and ticked off when informing him of the right thing to do.

:mad::mad:Ahh..Can't stand that guy.

those are generally the guys who really can't afford all the toys he has, that's why he feels the need to "parade" them around and make sure everyone thinks he is the big daddy around.

guys who can afford those things, have them and use them well and proficiently and don't feel the need for everyone to have to come fawn all over them.

Sheesh, I go boating to relax, not get bent over the rest of the world. I've always found that in a situation like this a simple "Please" works wonders. Last time I ran into something like this I even asked the guys to help me load the boat and they were more than glad to and after pulling it out we had a brew and talked about boating for 20 minutes. Another friendship made on the water. ;)

Yea, it's great that just being nice can get you more out of life :)

Re: People are just dumb!!

I find that people like to park their cars in the boat prep area to watch the boats come and go. They don't realize that they are blocking where I need to be to prep. If they don't move when they see me pulling up to them, I usually just ask them nicely to move from the prep lane. Most people will not deny the request, but I did get some "looks". One guy in a convertable with the top down just ignored me, so I pulled up close to his car. Then he could not leave. A few minutes later he realized that, he asked me to move. I told him "sure thing!" and just went about my business prepping the boat to launch, which included getting the PFD's on the kids, loading the coolers and chairs, etc from the van into the boat. Took my time, and I think he got the idea that he should have moved when asked nicely. I think they call that "Instant Karma". LOL!

I agree, I'm not trying to "gent bent" over the rest of the world. I have had over 20 years of great boating experiences and meeting people. But, my point is simply this, nothing more and nothing less, it is irritating that my time has to be waisted becuase people are plain inconsiderate. Its not about getting bent.

Maybe it should be a new post/thread about educating people on the do's and don'ts of boating. That's all, that's what these posts were really about.

I would just like people to actually "think" about what they are doing and realize that the world doesn't revolve around them.

The inconsiderate ones aren't reading this. However, the innocently oblivious may be, and there is hope for converting them....

Re: People are just dumb!!

My boat is in Savannah. I live in Huntsville, AL. So going fishing, boating, etc is usually a 1X a month trip. However I do go to the boat launch to sit and watch the boats (teary eyed) and count the days till my next trip. I admit I park in the best area where I can watch the ramp, never blocking the ramp mind you, but if someone is going to launch or retrieve or prep there boat and I see I am in the way, I will more then gladly move. Heck, I'll even help if I can just because.. If I don't see or notice you, please feel free to tap your horn or ask me to move I WILL NOT be upset in the slightest. If you are alone and want help launching or retrieving Please ask.... Knowing that there are plenty of jerks out there, I wonder how many sitting at the ramp are like me, just missing the fun and enjoying watching others having fun?

So then do you ask them nicely to move. I've never had it not work. Just lucky I guess...

Yea, usually its no problem. I did have one guy tell me to go.... well, keep it G Rated, but you know what he said.

Hmm...Landrover must have come a long way. My F250 diesel has a heck of time pulling my 29' Cobalt up the ramp. Can't imagine trying it with a cheesy SUV. Also wondering what state that would be and whether he had the appropriate towing permits. My boat is 9'-6" wide and needs a wide load permit to be towed...which is why I don't.

That said, there are obnoxious, stupid people of all ethnicities and economic classes. I took my kayak out fishing on Wednesday. These two guys and a kid in a beat to death Carolina Skiff came into the cove I was in, made all kinds of noise and then proceeded to net illegal blue crabs. I wouldn't have known this other than they felt the need to go into detail about how the crabs were too small but they didn't care and instructed the son to toss the small ones overboard if dnr showed up. If I could have made out the reg number under all of the dirt I would have called them in.

No matter what kind of boat, car, etc. you might have, someone always has something bigger, nicer, newer. If I've learned anything over the years, its that the guy you expect to be a jerk often times isn't and the guy you don't expect to be is.
