Pentax, wont shut off cleanly

when i shut if my volve pentax off. it shakes and rumbles as it tries to shut off. it will do that for about 20 sec. before it shuts off completely.
is this serious, i really want to go to the lake tommorrow.
other than that i don't have any other problems.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Heh... Pentax? I prefer Canon, but to each their own.

Your engine is having detonation problems.

A result of hot spots on your pistons.
This can have a lot of causes, but the most common are running rich, running hot or timing advanced too far.

Try a thorough tune-up.

It's Volvo Penta, not Pentax.

First off, what engine do you have?
Most common cause is idle rpm too high. Second by not allowing it to idle for a minute or two before shutting off.
