When, if ever, should I look for a PCV valve in Mercruiser engines? Does fuel injection have anything to do with whether or not a pvc valve will be utilized? If I understand correctly most carburated GM motors use breather tubes for crankcase ventilation vs pcv valve, is this correct? I was just thinking that I haven't come across any that had one...or so I thought anyways and was just wondering when and where I should be looking for one. Thanks.

If i recall correctly, all small block carbureted engines for example started using the pcv valve on the gen+ engines.

Carbureted 5.0L/5.7L ALPHA/BRAVO GEN+ started in 1998 while the 350 GEN+ efi/mpi started in 1996, Also Bond-o has it right as the non GEN+ 1995 350 mag mpi uses a pcv valve as well.

Came across new relevance for this question...I'm planning on putting on new chrome valve covers, I'm looking at just the typical ones from the auto store. Is that gonna be an issue if they don't have the breather tube ports? Can I just drill out the holes and shove in a couple of grommets? Is chrome a bad idea for boats...no salt water in my neck of the woods.

So why is it called 'Salt Lake City'?

Automotive valve covers should have a port for a PCV valve... (PCV valves have been required equipment on car engines for a LONG time....)

HAHA....fair enough sir. However the Great Salt Lake smells like rotten brine shrimp and it's only about 4 feet deep all the way across...theres a few folks that take their shallow keeled sail boats out there occasionally but that's about it.

Hmmm.. I was there in 1991, place called Pleasant Grove (just near Orem), on honeymoon...I don't recall any 'rotten brine shrimp'... Maybe I was busy with other things.... :D

You may be thinking Utah Lake....you would have been right next to it. That lake is fresh water, still not very deep only about 8-10ft, but its all fresh water. The Great Salt Lake is west over the Mnts, if you smelled rotten fish it wouldn't have been from there....haha, sorry bad joke I'm kidding of course.
