Hello Iboaters, just an introduction. In the process of starting my project a 1991 paramount 26. What I have done so far is found a soft spot in the back corner of boat, so cut entire floor out to check stringers. Seems like stringers that attach from transom to first bulkhead need to be replaced, stringers after that seem very good. I do believe the transom needs redoing as well. The problem I’ve run into when planning out replacing the transom, is how to go about replacing/repairing it. I’ve done research and read other post on here about how it should be done, but have run into some issues that I could not find, or may have not been covered. Like, quite a few cracks in gelcoat above and below where transom bracket is mounted. Taking cap off is out of the question, but cutting back section off is very doable. I will post pictures shortly along with specific questions, and hopefully we can get it figured out and keep the ball rolling on getting this boat completed and back in the water. Thank you for any information or help I receive from the individuals in this forum in advance. #floridaboating.

Welcome aboard.

all your questions can be answered by reading links 14, 15, 18, 2, 3, 4a, and 4b in the DIY sticky at the top of the forum

any rot in the deck means stringers and transom long ago rotted as you found out.

I personally would de-rig, brace the hull, un-cap and replace everything

then i would address the exterior cracks in the gel.....

if there are limited cracks, that will require you to grind out every crack, fill in with re-inforced gel and then blend

if there is a large amount of cracks. you will end up grinding down the entire surface to good fiberglass. layer a bit of CSM and 1708, then fair and then re-gel

Haven't posted in a while, but will revive my thread as I have been able to carve out time to begin working on my boat. I will add that I have gone through the boat a have assessed all that need to done. I am now at a stage where guidance to accomplish each step is needed. I will be posting pictures of the transom as that is where I will be starting.

That’s an understatement. Totally agree with. But need to repair outside skin so I can repair from the inside. Don’t know if outside skin is capable of bonding to new core in its current state.
