I prefer alumiprep

However If you just blasted the case, scuff with scotchbrite, wipe with acetone, then once that flashes, spray the etching primer.

Hey Scott, I noticed, on another thread, that you said bare aluminum has to be primed with in hours of being stripped. I have been stripping mine a bit at a time over the last week and intend on painting it this weekend. There is a chance I may not get to it , though. Does it harm the aluminum to leave it bare, or do I just need to light sand the whole thing and clean it before I paint. The lower is done and turned out quite nice. Just hope the paint stays on.

Nice job!

Scott,
“primer surfacer/sealant (either spray on or brush on) - this will seal the zinc primer and make a good base for top coat”

is this intermediate coat necessary and, if so, is there one you recommend?

Finally got that thing stripped. What a pain. Sand the whole thing and wipe with acetone then paint.

Tomorrow. Had enough for today!
