Background: I had a 1958 Evinrude Big Twin on my Glen L Zip, but gave up on keeping it running. Bought a new Suzuki and I am in process of molding a look alike Big Twin cowl that fits the Suzuki.
My question is when I get to painting the Suzuki lower unit how much sanding is required if any? If needed what grit? Will it need primed? I anticipate needing a small sand blaster for the nooks and crannies. What should I use for media?
Thanks

why would you blast it? nothing but a light sanding should be needed. You will not find a better paint than the factory.

I am changing the lower unit color on the Suzuki from white to match the OEM blue of the 58 Evinrude. That is why I am painting it. I am trying to make a new Suzuki look like an old Evinrude.
As to the blasting I am thinking there are parts around the mounting bracket that would be difficult to sand.
Thanks

VOC cure, heat cure, or 2-part catalyzed paint?

lightly scuff with a 3m green scotchbrite pad

do not blast unless you plan on completely disassembling and doing it right.

there is a thing out there called liquid sandpaper for hard to reach nooks.

Good idea liquid sandpaper, I didn't think of that. I am using acrylic enamel from NYMarine. After scuffing with the green pad am I correct that I would not need to prime?
Thanks
