Painting Johnson O/B hood?

Tried a search but didn't get what I was after.

Have a '92 Johnson 6 with nasty hood, decals were shot, paint worn off in several areas. Found some great decals that are no longer available here:

Got some OEM touch-up paint but wondering what primer to use on the composite hood, it's not fiberglass, looks to be a plastic of some sort.

Any ideas?

I think Endura shot with a Badger touch-up gun will look fine! :)

I did this one with Rustoleum but my hood was fiberglass.

Yup, saw your post when I was searching earlier, nice work!

Called a tech this am, wasn't much help.:( He said they painted right on the plastic which I'm sure does well at the factory but I doubt would work for a touchup.

OEM touch-up paint says to look at service bulletin 2275, trying to get it from my dealer...

Decided to strip the old paint as it was worn off in areas and wouldn't have blended in well. Cowl seems to be some sort of plastic, anybody got any idea? ABS, PVC,? There's a few dings, what should I fill them with?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into them.

Was at a plastics supply today for another project and brought the hood in, guy was quite sure it was ABS...

Visit wally world or your local hardware store...... DUCO makes a 2 part plastic welder epoxy and it is really good stuff. I have rebuilt the spoon portion of fishing lures with it. Dries hard and can be sanded/painted...... since you are only filling dings I think it might work..... cheap too

Decided the dings were small enough to fill with some spot putty, shot a coat of primer first:

I used Rustoleum white primer, orange and white paint and once done applied about 8 coats of crystal clear Rustoleum gloss coating.

The key is good prep up front, good primer and take your time.

That turned out better than new! Did you clear coat over the stickers to keep them from scratching?

Terry that looks really good. You did a great job on that. I have a question has anyone ever found anywhere to get the rubber gasket that goes on an older outboard motor hood. I am looking for some.
