I painted my last boat with Rustoleum. The paint was fine but the clear did not hold up at all.

Just so I don't look like an idiot....the only reason I clear coated was cuz I painted the top surfaces of my boat with Rustoleum Metallics which did need to be cleared to really bring out the gloss. I did not, and would not, clear the regular white I painted the majority of the boat with.

I dont think you looked like an idiot at all.....every paint project has its own process. That does look good. Before you said the clear coat didnt hold up? It looks good to me or is that photo of before?

Thanks. It hadn't been painted long when I took that pictures. There were a couple places along the gunwhales that got white and rough. I don't know if it was from suntan lotion or what.

I have restored and repaired a 1998 Sprint boat after a dealing with a tornado and shore rocks. The bottom is white gel-coat. The local marine dealers say I need to re gel-coat the effected areas. Are there any other options out there that will work? I need to be frugel in this effort, retirement does that to ones self.
