Re: paint question

As with any paint it's all about the prep work. You will have to follow the Summits recommendations to the letter to ensure proper adhesion. As for preliminary prep on your boat you should do a thorough degreasing wash down of the hull with TriSodiumPhosphate (get it @ Lowe's). This is very important because the gelcoat on your boat is porous and it HAS absorb grease and grime over the year. If you don't degrease it before sanding you will just drive the grease deeper and cause adhesion problems. After the wasy and dry, sand with 80 grit and then make your own, or buy a quality marine filler. Wash the boat again, dry, and then wipe down with acetone. Use the fille to fill all the gouges and scratches. Sand them fair, and wash and wipe with acetone again. You should then be ready to apply the MFG's recommended primer and paint. Make sure to follow MFG's recommendations about sanding between coats of Primer and paint. Again Prep is Everything to ensure a longlasting quality paint job.

It would prolly be best to Spray this paint.

As for pics open a free photobucket account, upload your pics, hover your cursor over the pic and a window will appear with the tags. Click the IMG tag to copy it and then Paste it into you iBoats post. Pretty simple.

Re: paint question

Urethane would work great. Just do what woodenglass said. Prep is everything, otherwise you'll be doing it again.

Re: paint question

Yep but for a MUCH less expensive but very durable alternative, you can use Valspars Tractor Acrylic Enamel Paint with Hardener. I Painted my boat with it and it looks pretty darn good. Check my "My Flamingo" link below. Page #10 has all the details on how to paint using this paint.
