Re: overheating issue

Either get the OEM kit or the Sierra kit. Don't even mess with those other cheap s*** aftermarket kits.

iboats sells parts, you know, the place you are getting all this free information from.

Water Pump Kit - Sierra - iboats

This one also includes the base which is probably bad too after not having water for 3 minutes.

PS GLM is one of the cheapest of the cheap junk.

Yes Don thank you, I saw that one on here I was not sure if that would be the way to go but I think I am gonna order it though this site. I feel better knowing I am buying something quality. I was looking at a different one on iboats so I am glad you posted that.

Re: overheating issue

So I took it apart last night and sure enough the impeller was smoked, here are some pictures. I did purchase the kit that you posted Don so thank you for that advice.

For some reason the picture files are to big of the impeller and the lower end I will have to take some more.

And yes my neighbors hate the two boats. Ha ha

Don't forget to upload pictures of the water pocket cover in the upper. Want to make sure that is not melted.

Wow...nice pic! Have accounted for all the pieces of the old impeller? They will haunt you if you dont find them. And what about the water pocket cover in the upper part of the drive?

Re: overheating issue

One thing about running it without water, those impeller pieces will never leave the pump housing. Might drop down into the pickup column. but just turning the drive over and letting them fall out will get them.

The good news is, nothing shows signs of melting from overheat.

Probably should pull the elbow and check the flappers and see if they are burned up, and check the inside of the exhaust hose.

Ha thanks I was amazed at how blown out it was Ktbarrentine. Don thanks for the turning it over tip that is a good idea. We did find most of the pieces had fallen into the vent area where water goes in, we removed the outer vents and pieces came pouring out. I am wondering what is a good gear oil to put in as we need to change it.

Re: overheating issue

I would like to check those flappers as well, would I be able to find locations for that under exhaust in my manual?

Re: overheating issue

The Merc High Performance gear lube is what's recommended. I even used it in my Volvo drive when I had it.

I will look on here for that, do I need synthetic or is just the premium good enough?

Re: overheating issue

throttle cable.jpg

Hey guys we put the water pump and impeller in last night used the kit purchased from this website. Everything went great until had to try and reattach the throttle cable. Everything I read said to have it in forward gear when reinstalling the lower end so that is how we had it. It just does not seem to be fitting in there right for some reason? The throttle cable is functioning normally for the most part but it seems like it wants to fall out of there when changing between forward, neutral, and reverse. Is there a technique to getting the cable just right? Also I am wondering if maybe this was a problem even before we took it apart because even before when I would change gears it would make a strange clicking noise that did not seem right. Reverse would make a clacking noise for a second then stop. I am really confused and would appreciate any help.

Re: overheating issue

The upper shift shaft is bent for sure, was it in forward when the drive was removed? Doesn't look like it, that's when they get bent.

Re: overheating issue

It was in forward when we removed the drive. Is that upper shaft gonna need to be replaced or is it possible to get it back in shape.

We could tell it had been taking apart before and with it making a similar noise I am suspect it was bent before. Maybe we made it worse? Is replacing the upper shaft a huge job?
