overheat alarm test

How do I test the overheat alarm on a 79 Evinrude 70 hp? Sensor as well as horn.

Disconnect the tan wire from the sensor on the head. Turn ignition on and ground the wire to the block - horn should sound. Testing the sensor would require removal from the head and heating it in a pan of oil until your DMM (continuity check mode) beeps.

At the same time have a thermometer in the pan of oil to see at what temp it trips.
