Outdrive Lower piece broke off.

The shelf piece covering the prop broke off, likely from hitting a log or something. Has anyone seen this before? What does the repair entail? Does it need to be repaired?

a new section can be welded back on but as is will not affect the operation

I had a whale tail that broke some chunks off my cavitation plate. I welded some new pieces of plate in then repainted my drive. Pics of the repair start HERE.
