outdrive identification

I am trying to determine what model my outdrive is. The boat is a '77 cobalt with an mcm 898. There are no tags or numbers stamped on the outdrive that i can find. The marina has had problems looking up parts in the past. I would like to be sure for own sanity or before ordering anything online. I need to reseal the lower unit and want the correct parts. Thanks for any help!

can you post a picture??

check the port side of the driveshaft housing (upper half) on the drive, that is where the serial number is stamped - may take some scraping/rubbing to see it

i would guess that factory, your '77 boat would have an MC-1 drive, model 898 - fairly common, but whos to say what has been done to it in the past 34 years
