The out drive on my project boat is labelled "ALPHA 1"
ID # OD554000. The GBM said he thought is was about a 1994. Some listings show it a Gen II, but others do not. Can some please clairfy this for me? Or more importantly, which manual and/or water pump/impeller kit to get?

It's an Alpha I, 1990. Had it been a 94 it would have been an Alpha I Gen II, and it is not.

Re: Outdrive Identification help

Thanks, DonS. The Mercstuff list shows Alpha One Gen ll numbers ranging from OD469859 thru OF679999 for 1990-1995, and the Alpha One being 6225577 thru OD469828 for 1983-1990.
Since my drive is OD554000, would not it be a Gen ll? Or is this list not correct?
Is the water pump/impeller kit the same for both?

Then just look at the drive, is it a Alpha I or an Alpha I Gen II

Re: Outdrive Identification help

DonS: You are correct. Based on the skeg shape and bolts, it is an Alpha One.

Thanks also Bondo.

Is it OK to tilt the OD up a bit to remove the lower unit? Mine hangs too close to the ground to drop it much.
