I'm thinking this is because my annodes didnt protect???. I've tried cleaning and also a little bit of sandpaper. But then I stopped pretty quickly. Any suggestions? On what to do with this before I put it back in the water. Do I paint it? Or just let it go until next year. I have replaced my anodes that were pretty beat up with magnesium ones for regular water

Looks like you have a little more going on than a used up anode.
Check to make sure your bonding wire(s) is still attached and working.

Boat left in water with shore power near by?

Yes at the marina left on tricle charger
You have a problem with your grounding system, trickle charger or someone else's charging system.
Need to sort it out before putting the boat back in the water

Be sure that the bonding wire from the inner transom plate to the tiller bar is in good condition. Also that the engine is bonded to the transom inner plate.

I would pull the drives and paint them ASAFP.

Annual maintenance on moored boats is painting the drives, don't the zincs and doing a bottom job

Or start planning on replacing them

That one has a lot of pitting, I thought mine was bad!

yes, and you need to neutralize the corrosion, then use an etching agent or an etching primer.
