Outboard upgrade.

Hi folks.
I'm currently upgrading my dt2 Suzuki motor.
My options are a mercury 3.5 4 stroke or an old 3.5 HP 2 stroke. Only 100 pounds in the difference price wise. Which is the better option overall. ??

I personally like the lighter 2-strokes

The term ---" old "----For outboards can mean different things.-----I like some of the 6 HP motors from the 60's / 70's and some that run like new.

Which ever motor checks out as being better, before buying.
Compression test each cylinder. At the very least. If running is not allowed.

The two stroke is lighter in weight and will move you faster speedwise. The four stroke will use less fuel. Two stroke much easier to service and repairs are fairly cheap. Four stroke will be quieter....so ...which benefits are most important ?

Plus the 2 stroke will keep the Skeeters at Bay...
