Re: Outboard bogging down under load

Fred, I know this is a B.O.A.T. (Break Out Another Thousand) But seriously..Pull the carbs. Don't buy another thing unless its a manual. Don't buy the carb rebuild kit, nothing else till you figure out your problem. You should not keep thowing money at it and hope it fixes it. Tell you what....I will promise you that if you dive into the carbs you will not regret it. Infact you will kick your self for not doing it first. I just did it to my V4 cause it wouldn't start fast enough for me. found some jell in the bowls. Used Gumout to spray through the jets and any hole I could find. these carbs have little screws that cover jets on either side. I don't remember what year you said your motor was so your may vary slightly. I am so confident that you can do it that I will tear mine down agian and have my son take digital pictures to help you get them back together if you get stuck.

Ok guys, got to do a compression test today all 3 cylinders were dead on 115. i did notive that the primer bulb has a very small leak around where the hose connects to the bulb. Obvioulsy this needs to be replaced, could this small leak be causing a bogging issue. Talked to a mechanic today and told him my issue and he said before doing a carb clean that i should spray some seafoam deep creep into the carbs and let it sit for a day or two, fire it up and it just may clear out some of the junk in the carb. anyoney have any thoughts on this. Thought that would be my last attempt before doing a full tear down of teh carb.

Fred,
When you get your carbs disassembled and see how they actually work, you'll understand why nothing added to the gasoline or sprayed into the carb can possibly clear out all the tiny passages that need cleaning. Give 'em a good soaking, and install new kits.

A little bit of fuel seeping through around the primer bulb won't cause your symptom either...once the line is pressurized, the carbs already have enough gas in 'em to run for several minutes (but do fix it, obviously).

It's been 3 months you've been avoiding your carb rebuild. Once you do it, and see how easy it really is, you will feel a little silly but don't worry, we promise not to taunt you about it, we've all been there before.

Your carbs are remarkably simple devices. This really is something you can do yourself, and you will be pleased with the result.

trust me.........
