I felt this way for 5 years.
couldn't take it any more.

i was on anti inflammatory meds for a couple of years.

didn't really help. Insides didn't like it either.

worked through the pain, fished and boated through the pain. Lived with the pain of a knife stabbing me in the hip on every step.

couldn't take it any more.

Had hip replacement surgery 14 weeks ago.

hot bath to relax the muscles and then ice. sometimes it worked.

all those flex pills with fish oils etc didn't help.

If you have any degeneration in your bone at all it's just a matter of time.

i found being easy on it and not working it made it worse. Maybe it had something to do with endorphins or something kicking in to block the pain. But once i stopped moving i stiffened up like a old door hinge.

i know what your going through and the fixes are temporary.
Oh my leg muscles degenerated because i couldn't use it like i wanted. If you can use that 5 speed keep it. Exercise them muscles. I look like 2 different people with the difference in my leg muscles.
Getting better all the time

Re: Osteo Arthritis tips ??

dont stop moving around, I've had 4 knee surgeries, crushed shatteered left knee, only good piece left was knee cap, 1 plate, 6, 3" screws, still 2 screws left in, I get aches and pains this time of year more often, and i take glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM, just be careful of chondroitin if you have a shellfish allergy. But I have sworn by these tablets for ME for about 8-9 years, they work for me. BUT dont need to take them for prevention, only when symptoms occur.
I DONT know all your detials, just saying what works for me. Good luck.
Oh, get this, I can work a 13 hour shift outside a few weeks ago, freeze my butt off climbing in top picks(huge fork lifts) and install equipment and no pains???? Hell I just go with it :)

Thanks Guys . Trying to find comfortable sleeping position has been the killer . spent 2-3 hrs sitting on the edge my couch , in a sleeping bag with a cushion on my lap and a pillow on the cushion to get some "sleep" - if that's what it was...
I do keep active - I wanna stay that way ! I hate being laid up . I use to hike / bike / in marching band as a kid , so my legs are pretty muscular still . Hey how come nobody has suggested I need to quit my day job an retire to fla ????

This helped me for about a year.

I know this sounds stupid but, I started sleeping on my stomach with a thin pillow under my head and a thin pillow under my knee. what that did was put my hip joint in a different place than usual. I believe resting on a non inflamed section relieved the stress on the rest of the joint. When i got up i felt much better. If you can sleep on your stomach and keep your legs together it might be worth a shot.

You really need to get a game plan. You sound a little like how i was feeling.

If it's keeping you awake and stopping you from doing normal activities without having to make adjustments then it's time to get serious.
Oh,,,,, retirement,,,,,, bad idea.........

Re: Osteo Arthritis tips ??

Suffering from severe OA myself, also dealing with psoriatic arthritis, too young at this time for knee replacement at 46, so i get injections about every 3 months that helps control the psoriasis that goes along with the psoriatic arthritis. Live on a daily regimen of vicoden, tramadol, and anti-inflamitory meds. I found with it that activity is the key to keeping pain down but not to over do it. the innactivity makes it more painful for me.Plus for the last six months I have been dealing with butt, leg and feet numbness, tingeling
and pain,MRI and a trip to a back guy and I am scheduled to see a surgeon
for disc problems that have choked off the nerve bundle in my lower spine.
I keep the thought that there are people who are a lot worse off than I, and am thankful for what I have. Work allows me to take a less hands on physical
wise approach, more design, sales and oversee projects. When at home I divide my time between here,AOMCI,a few other sights and working out here in the garage/shop. work on classic J/E outboards.do only what I can rest and go back to it when I can. It may take me 4-5 days to pull apart a motor
but so what at least I still can. Do not give up take it head on and do your best.

I use our hot tub and medicinal marijuana. Your mileage may vary depending on if your state is mary jane friendly or not. I have RA and Fibromyalgia from a liver disease and 2 rounds of chemo to treat it.

I seem to remember that heats not what you need, "although it feels good", if you can control the inflimation in the joints through diet mostly, you will be farther ahead than burning your stomach lining out with pills.

I had a hip replacement 2 months before my 38th b'day.

Try everything else first, that is a LAST resort.
That said, you will know when it's time.

Swimming is the best therapy for osteoathritis.
Your weightless. Try it and see.:)

I've heard people say this works.
I think it's an "old wives tale" myself.

All though, you might just try anything before you go "under the knife".
