Orange peel on gel coat.

Hi folks!
I have a 16' Boston Whaler that I am refurbishing, and just started the wet sanding of the gel coat. The problem I'm having is that there is a lot of orange peel left from the roller, and I keep going through some spots while trying to sand others. I am using a 3M guide coat, and 340 grit paper, because 400 was taking way too long. Does anybody have an ideas on how to avoid this? Also, its taking a very long time. Is there some way I could sand part way down, dewax the pits that are left, and maybe use like a trowel of some sort and fill all the little pits with another layer of gel coat?

Any Ideas are greatly appreciated.

welcome aboard

best way is to spray with duratec 904 additive and it lays down like paint

did 3-4 layers on the boat in my signature that way prior to sanding.

even then, I had to sand (using a DA) with 320, 400, 600, 800, then cut-n-buff

However in your case, I would sand completely with 220 grit, get it smooth, then go back over with 3-4 layers of gel and start resanding.
