The outdrive is a bravo 3, on an '06 sea ray.
supposedly 300 hrs.
Not many pics, I know but couldn't see any other areas to question.
engine (5.0) compartment is very clean, well maintained....there are no grease, rust or oil stains.
So , see anything ? good/bad.

If your looking at a boat to buy , no one can tell you the condition of your outdrive or engines by looking at pictures , unless it has a cracked block with a rod sticking through it . Or the outdrive is smashed and hanging on by a trim cylinder.

I understand that. Which is why you hire an inspector. But there are people on here who have been around boats for eons and are capable of offering valid opinions just by looking.

what size boat is it. May be underpowered with a 5.0 . Would inspect the B3 for corrosion. Some of the early B3 s had a lot of corrosion that was rectified with additional zincs on later ones.

there is a grayish/tanish semi crusty discharge showing around the water inlets on the lower case..
Wouldn't know if that's normal or not. The manifolds have been replaced.

yeah thats a boat show special. if in good shape and you dont want to tow for water sports you can go down in pitch if need be

My good friend has a 24 ft crownline with his family and mine the 350 mag / 300 hp is just barely adequate

Is this a carbed 220 hp or 260 hp mpi

the 240 sundancer with a 350 mag just barely gets out of the hole. not having one with a 5.0 is almost 50 hp less.

I'd have to check. um, using my gear head knowledge, the air filter sits on top, like a carbureted car....no hose to an airbox.
It wasn't an in depth pre purchase, just stopped to look as it was on my way to my marina.
A couple of "flags". boat has been on the market for a while. I know because I've watched for a while. If you saw the place it was at, you'd probably cringe a little, I did. The owner seemed honest, but the retired, coast guard business partner a little too .....full of himself...
I'm not as quickly judgmental as I used to be, however....I ask more questions now....most of the time...

the small power plant may be why it has sat or because the seller is full of himself. Basically all you care is was it taken care of. If it was and especially if seller is still in boating it probably was cared for.

There is no hose to an airbox like on a car. Flame arrestor is on top of manifold just like on a carbed motor, if someone hasnt taken it off they will have a plastic flame arrestor cover to keep water out of intake and off distributor.

Either way do a water test. if u just want a boat to cruise and it works for you, Hills Props makes a set of 4x4's that seem to work good for this application

a water test is mandatory..

the 305 only has 260 hp if it can hit WOT. there is not much torque under the curve.

if the motor never gets above 4600 RPM, there is only about 210hp there

depends on what u want to use it for. A couple of thoughts of course depends on price of boat and what u want to get into.

if you just want a cruiser and inexpensive way to get on the water, may work just fine as is or swap a lower pitch prop for when you are more loaded down.

if you like the boat and its been sitting and price is right, and if you are a gear head like us.... and its carbed swap the engine get a crate 5.7 or 6.2 GM based, swap the engine and 4 bbl carb and will have enough power to do what you want.

My primary use is skiing/wakeboard/ and tubing so wouldnt be for me but really comes down to how you use the boat. For two people with a cabin you can stay overnight could work out just fine.

if you're a motor head and cant leave things well enough alone like a lot of us you'd probably want more power. really depends on what's available in your area and your needs. Either way I would be more inclined if the boat was well maintained maybe some service records vs a better boat that no one has changed the oil and gear lube

clarefication: I'm a gearhead but incapable of engine swaps, rebuilding, etc. No space, therefore no equipment for that. I did remove and install a tranny in a '72 monte, and a '92 aerostar (twice) in a carport on my back. By myself. Bolt on's also ok....but beyond that, nope.
