And as just a general question, is the steering supposed to be easy and smooth with new cables, with just slight pressure to turn the wheel, or always a bit stiff and snug. Frankly, I just don't remember from when the boat was new.
If you have power steering it should be smooth. If you do not have power steering it should be smooth at slow speeds and increase as speed increases. This can be offset by the anode on the rear of the ventilation plate.
When I installed a new cable and helm it was a bit stiffer for the first year, not much more, but it did ease up
