OMC VS Merc 140 Harmonic Balancer

Hi all,

I'm just in the process of swapping a 140 OMC into my boat that originally came with the 120. I do not have the harmonic balancer for the engine, and would like to know if there is a difference between the OMC Harmonic Balancer, and the Mercruiser Harmonic Balancer?

Anyone know where I could get one at a decent price?

Nope,... The motor don't care what color the balancer is....

Try ebay or craigslist for a used 1....

Are there any GM cross reference numbers? Is the harmonic balancer for the 165 the same as the 140?

Nope,... It's gotta be a 3.0l,... And it should be of about the same Vintage....

I have no idea what year the engine is from that is going into my boat. The accessories and stuff are just going to come off the 120 that I removed.

I noticed a new harmonic balancer advertised at ebasicpower: http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/c/MER6M/Harmonic+Balancers+for+Mercruiser

They've got it listed the same for the 120/140/165 engines.

Why does it have to be from the same vintage?

Ayuh,.... Hard to say,.... Ask Them....

I do Know that a 120hp, 153cid motor does Not have a harmonic balancer....

Because I'm trying to cover my azz,+ make sure You don't run into Problems....
Even though most any part of any Chevy 3.0l motor will bolt to Another 181cid Chevy motor,...
Chevy has made ALOT of subtle changes in the 3.0l motors since they started building them about 50 Years ago.....
