I'm replacing deck, stringers, and transom in 1988 Chaparral SX 1900. It currently has a alpha one outdrive connected to a 5.7 OMC. I also have a 1985 celebrity 5.7 (cracked block) with alpha one. It's my donor boat. Is it going to be worth it to replace the the OMC parts with all Merc parts? How much more work am I looking at? Should I just put the OMC power steering etc. back in? I've heard the transom whole is the same for merc or omc. Opinions please?

The mercury transom assy will bolt right in without any extra work, except doing it!
You must have the adapter (after market) to mount the drive.
If it were me putting the effort into this unit, I'd make everything match! The steering cable will attatch with no issues.

You may have to use the manifolds from whatever transom parts you use
