OMC Starts then dies

I have a Bayliner that has a OMC 3.0 4cylinder. I turn the key to the start position it starts up, but once I let go of the key it shuts off. What can be causing this?

safety lanyard switch,if equipped.
There is no power getting to the coil in the "Run " position on the key switch.
Motor is starting because of power from the solenoid in "Start" position

Thanks... it is equipped with a saftey lanyard - what do I need to check? How can I determine if this is the issue?

go the where the safety switch is and TEMPORARILY by -pass it FOR TESTING PURPOSES

How do you bypass it?
