OMC power trim problem

I have a 1987 Bayliner with a OMC 3.0 Ford engine. It hasn't been used for 2 yrs. I hooked up a small 12 volt battery to lower the power trim to have more room in the shop. I hit the up arrow by mistake and it worked; then I hit the down arrow and got a click. I tried the up arrow again and got another click, so it will not go either way. I checked the solenoids with a test light, and they seem to be working. Is there a way to check the motor, or does it sound like I need a new motor.

How is the charge in that small battery your using? Maybe the one shot was all it had. And sitting for two years it's going to have some corrosion between connections so your looking in the right places. There is a bypass if all your wanting to do is lower the thing for now.

I didn't know there was a bypass, where is it located. I wondered about the small battery but it acted like it had enough power. It will turn over the engine. I didn't have a large one to use at the time.
