Re: OMC out drive stuck down.

Gotcha Bonda, thanks. I re-assembled everything loosley, cover screws in hand tight, worm gear screws in tight, and it works intermittantly. There is no rhyme or reason or pattern it follows. Sometimes a good flow, others just the click, and sometimes a tiny little groan. Now nothing again. Ran jumpers off the car for a bit to charge the batt while switching the tilt switch. I'll have to start again tomorrow. BTW I packed theclutch box with grease instead of oil, as several have mentioned it works better. Should I mix in some 30 to get it to flow better then go all grease?

Re: OMC out drive stuck down.

Thanks Don, thats why I'm doing it until I find out what fixes it. I don't want ANY band aids.

As far as the fendersfender reply goes, I don't know how much of the thread you read, but this is a "used" but in good condition motor. The old one is what got me here in the first place. Did you have any issues with it when installing it? Anything make it inoperable, such as too tight on the clutch (as someone here wrote they had to "thicken" their clutchbox gasket because it bound up the clutch from turning), or other issues? Thanks

Re: OMC out drive stuck down.

Wow. It looks like I may be in for a lot of dinking around. I have a 78 OMC outdrive and my lower unit is stuck in the down position in the driveway. All I get with my switch (I only have one switch - up or down - no trim or anything else) is the celonoid clicking. I loosened all the electrical connections up on the THREE celonoids and sprayed them with an elecrical cleaner. Only thing is is when I tightened them back down, I busted one of the studs out of the plastic. I wanted to be sure it was tight and making a good connection and oops. I am getting 3 new celonoids today and going to replace all three to eliminate that part of the puzzle. Looks like I may have a-lot more to do - hope not but we will see. All of you out there posting help to others of us that don't know much about this yet is such a great help.... Thank you so much.
