OMC King Cobra Cone Clutch

I have actually seen Volvo SX labeled drives mated to Cobra transoms at the rental places up in Tahoe but they may have both been the 95 era drives. Would definitely call the places that sell these used and rebuilt drives to be sure.

Yeah. I know DonS told me once that that there was a year where everything was interchangeable. I want to say 1995 (or 1994.5) and the OMC cones (1990 to 1994 were not possible without modification).

Also, I seem to remember him saying that Volvo used to have a "kit" that would work with those older (Cone-clutch) gimbal mounts.....

I think I still have the instructions, procedure (I think with pictures) he used to put a DPS on a dog-clutch 460 Cobra gimbal mount.

1994 through 2005 all use the exact same pivot housing. Just looked it up. Part number is 3857979 so a newer drive will mate up fine.

eBAY, Craigslist, Google, your local Volvo Penta dealer etc...... You'll find new, used, rebuilt.

Expect to pay around $2000-2500..... for a "good" used one, $3500-4500 for rebuilt/reman (+ shipping) .......You don't want to know what a new one would be!

so it's important to identify what you have. All of the above models had an engine driven raw water pump (Does yours?)

Once you ID what you have, you can also determine which models are compatible with the Volvo Penta SX.

You may be able to simply bolt an SX on the back of that gimbal mount.

If the drive is internally damaged you cannot simply replace the lower as the oil does indeed flow in both the "upper and lower"

If the drive is the Joint OMC/Volvo SX, most all parts are available. (NOT cheap, but available)
