If an Outboard Control box has the Key Switch in it, it will be for the Hydro Electric Shift, and is not usable as the Shift Switches are not Compatible with Electric Shift

I have seen OMC Electric Shifting Stern Drives with either the Evinrude Push Button unit, or the Johnson Single Lever unit.

I'm going off what I was told by a mechanic. Not sure about the exhaust, but there is a cap that holds the prop on. There are separate wires that run to a switch for power tilt

You have what is called a stringer / electric shift OMC stern drive.----1977 or older model.-----You would do well to do a complete evaluation of the drive / motor and the boat before spending any money on it.-------You can test the shift function without the control box.------Also may want to check if your local shops will get you parts.----Or if they will work on it for you !!------Many shops will say ---Sorry , we will not help you with one of those .

Had a phone call a few years ago with an enquiry about a Mercruiser drive.------After a few questions the owner said he was told it was a Mercruiser.-------It was painted BLACK .---I quickly determined it was an OMC electric shift !!----I told him to sell it !!

I've had a mechanic go over the whole boat and he said for what I have its in surprisingly good shape. I've had the boat on the water and haven't had any issues. As for the shifting I currently have a On/off/on toggle switch for forward and reverse. It works fine, just adds another motion though when trying to dock/trailer the boat and what not

Thank you very much. Have you ever seen one with the tilt switch in the handle that would work for me?

They didn't do that on the Stringer. Even your trim was a different toggle than the tilt, and neither on the remote arm.

In case you didn't know trim and tilt are VERY different on the Stringer. Never use tilt as trim. You can idle along with the drive tilted up a little if you're shallows or something but not much faster than that. Trim was a separate motor on the FRONT of the engine.

Simple facts for you.-----They never used hydro-electric shift on the stern drives !!-----Hydro-electric had voltage to GREEN for neutral.-----It had 12 volts to GREEN AND BLUE to get reverse.-----No, no a hydro-electric box will not work on your electric shift stern drive !!

That is one thing I did know lol

What about electramatic?

http://www.southcentraloutboards.com...t-cables-14013

Electramatic was the Name Johnson used for the Electric Shift. That box should work, In fact that same control with different Decals was used on the OMC drives.
However, there is the chance this control has a bad switch too.
Heck I have one laying beside the house, been there at least 20 yrs. I'll have to examine it
