Working on a mid 90s omc cobra drive with 5.0 efi engine . It only has one shift cable and I bought a replacement cable but it’s not right on the drive end. This boat has a hose that runs up from the transom with the cable inside and then cable goes directly to shifter. No bracket or “lower shift cable”. everything looks old and original from the 90s so I doubt it’s been modified from the factory. Any idea where to get a cable or maybe a manual on this type of drive ?

A picture of the old and new cable ends side by side would be helpful also. If it’s a Cobra SX and there’s a hump on the top of the drive it’s a joint venture drive with Volvo, with the drive being the same as a Volvo SX-M.

The ID plate & pic of the drive tell it all: Joint Venture Cobra same as a Volvo SX of the same year. Just painted a different color (OMC Charcoal instead of Volvo Silver).

It's still not clear how the new and old cables are different. If you bought an older OMC cable, that could be the issue. Try a Volvo SX-M cable or the right length.

I’m not sure but I’m think the Volvo used a single cable system from the remote control to the outdrive. The original dog clutch Cobra was always
a 2 cable system with a bellcrank on the engine shift bracket.
So that one is as you’d expect just like a Volvo.

Show the pictures of each end of the cable. When these joint ventures came out, they had the Volvo end at the drive side and the OMC end at the control side. If the Control was changed, they it will not have the OMC end anymore.
