I have an OMC Cobra 4.3 that is overheating. I just replaced the impeller and thermostat because of the problem but I still continue to have overheating issues.

Are you overheating while on muffs too?

Can you give us more info on how and under what conditions it's overheating? What was the condition of the old impeller?

Yes overheating occurs with the muffs on while at idle. I pulled the hose off the thermostat housing that runs from the power steering cooling and no water was flowing out. Last Thursday when I had it hooked up to the muffs I noticed water spraying out, and found out the power steering cooler was busted. So got it back from being fixed and put it on.

How much water pressure do you have??
A trickle isn't enough.
4.3 Cobra probably 20 + years old possibly the manifolds or risers are clogged?
Bruce asked about the old impeller??? Was it whole when you removed it?
If not then the pieces could be clogging the system?

Well I just finished installed the new impeller and housing but its not sucking up any water. Pulled the hose off the thermostat housing and no water came out, so I went back and pulled of the impeller housing and the impeller is not even wet.

Okay, I guess my muffs weren't making a good connection because I took them off and turned them around and then everything worked fine.
