older mercruiser 2.5 possible carb problems

Hello all its been awhile.. Anyway have a 1974 trihull with a 2.5 mercruiser. Great little boat runs good but the problem I have is when I am loading the boat in the water and it sits there a bit before I start the engine I notice a little gas slick around the rear of the boat. Really don't know what to think because the boat fires right up and runs good. People at the dock always get on my case about seeing this gas slick on top of the water and I need to prevent this before I go out next time. Thanks for any tips or advice. Kelly

Gas is probably coming out either the gas cap of the vent line. I'll guess that you fill your tank full and when it's tipped up going in this is when some gas leaks out the cap or vent. If this is the case may need to not fill it all the way up until another fix comes to mind.

Are you sure it is gas and not oil or grease? I had a 2.5l that had a little grease on the drive and it made a slick. It doesn't take much of any of them to make it look like a lot has gone in the water. You might also want to check your drive lube to make sure it is not leaking.

I have a 1996 Honda 75 hp, I'm having problems with the fuel pump, or sending unit, or vacuum. I checked sending unit it's good. The gas gauge shows 3/4 tank, the engine stops ruining like it's out of gas. it won't start until I add more gas. but the tank has gas in it. Could it be air getting in the line? Once I add the gas it runs fine.what would make the gas stop going to motor like it's empty? then add gas and away I go. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Back to my problem if it were oil instead of gas where would I look to fix this problem??? Thanks guys Kelly

Check your drive lube first. Do you have any grease on the drive? Mine had some grease from my hand when I reinstalled the drive. It doesn't take much.
