Is there any way to set up a type of steering and control box for this older outboard. If so does anyone know all of the things i would need to get. like which control box would work, which type of steering would work best? Thanks

Re: older 5.5hp johnson seahorse steering

There was an adapter kit for those motors so you could use a regular Simplex or Ship Master control and steering. What year or model is it, I will see if I can find a picture. There weren't a ton of them made, so it may be a bit difficlut finding one, unless you get lucky.

EDIT: I looked through my stuff and can't find a picture. But the kit consists of an adapter piece that bolts to the shroud and the shifter control cable lock goes on it. And a extended front carrying handle that bolts on. The steering attachment connects to the extended handle. The throttle control cable lock is a standard part/installation.
