All this is new too me... I rebuild cars, have a Cisco Sys. Cert. and a B.A. in Elec. Eng. BUT never rebuild a houseboat.

If you have any computer related questions, I can help with that.

Thank you,

David

I wana see the homelite. I had one back in the early '70's and it was old then. I think it was the first 4 stroke and heavy as heck.

Post up in the "Other Outboards" section. Those guys are amazing at sourcing parts.

Did you find out what you needed on the engine?

Try 4 cycle marine in Redding, California. They have everything for Homelite and Bearcat. The URL is:
4 Cycle Marine - Bearcat 55 | Bearcat | Boat Motors | Four Cycle Motors | Fisher Pierce | Homelite | Homelite Parts

Good luck. I've talked to Ed Ewing who owns the business and he's a really nice guy. They overhaul these things and bring them right back to a zero time engine. The Homelite and Bearcats are Crosley 4 cylinder engines with an overhead camshaft. It's a brilliant design, it was decades ahead of it's time when they first started using them in racecars long before they started making outboards with them. What is really interesting about them is that they have no head gasket because the cylinder head and cylinder block are a single unit. That is really different.

Davis joined in Feb made 3 posts & the 1 @March 20 was his last. Hasn't even logged on since. Doubt he's following this thread still...

That was over 7mo ago, the red banner at the bottom of the browser window suggested that this thread should be considered closed. Unless Davis 're-opens' it by posting, please try to remember the 90day closed thread guideline we agreed to when we joined.

Use the PM system if you'd like to discuss Davis' needs for service work. Not sure if you're supposed to be linking to your business in the open forum either.........

Have a great end to the week....

Ain't my business. Whose business are you talking about? He asked a question (to which I failed to notice the date of) and I posted an answer. These engines are so obscure that it seems to deserve a little guidance to a place where parts can be had but you are correct. He probably hasn't checked back since March.

SeaStomper: you didn't open a 90day old thread, nor advertise your business. So nope, wasn't referring to your post......

Davidwis77. That is one dang cool motor! I love the embem. Maybe that's weird but I think it's cool. What I think is even better than that, is that looks to me like an original service manual. The Yukon Delta is pretty cool too. Do you have any pics of the insde? We have a lot of house boats around here because of how close we are to Lake Powell, Lake Mead and Flaming Gorge.
I think it would be cool to have a boat like that. Maybe someday.

Thanks jbcurt. My mistake. Davidwis, that's cool and I gotta hand it to you for being in touch with your post after so long. I like the idea of a trailerable house boat. Dunno about a roof. I have a small tri hull and I built a little enclosure on it, with a slanted roof that also curves down over the sides. There is a slight overhang for the water to drip off of all the way around the roof. The water just drains off quickly, and even though no weather seals are on it since the whole thing slides aft, no water is getting in even on the Pacific Ocean with the associated spray during running. The point is, you could maybe have a variation of the slant and curve, maybe a subtle version of it and not so exaggerated like what's on my enclosure, for rain drainage or something.

The roof of this was made with plywood panels and there are stringers on the interior running lengthwise at the joints between the panels. Then there are three ribs going across for added rigidy. I layed the panels out the way I wanted them and supported them in position with camera tripods, then glassed the stringers and ribs to it. The cross ribs of the roof were made in two pieces, conforming to the tops and sides for each side leaving a small gapin the center top, to which I then glassed a joining sandwich of plywood to the two pieces. This made it much easier to get the width correct instead of having to cut one entire piece out that had to conform exactly to the width of the enclosure. An abbreviated post of the enclosure build is at:

Good luck with her.

Cool looking project you have going. Naming her after your mom is a very nice tribute. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hey again davidwis77. Sorry to hear about your struggles. It looks like your really workin her over inside. Nice pics. Were you refering to the roof as what to re-build the structure out of or how it should be built?
