My dad rode with me to go get my new boat, and my dad has trolled for years although he didn’t go out last year due to time and other projects. We talked fishing of course. I haven’t gone out on his boat in a couple years and I’ve never actually had my own boat that was really capable, but now I do.

He told me that I really should have a paddle wheel so that I know speed over water vs GPS. Without buying another finder or transducer that might hook to either of the finders I have ( Elite 7 HDI and a Helix 5 ) I wonder about the old school Luhr Jensen weighted indicator as they still seem to be available.. I know a fish hawk would help me but after buying the boat a big dollar purchase will have to wait

Will that old indicator do the trick?

I know nothing of the Luhr Jensen weighted indicator.
The older hummingbirds have a connection for a paddle wheel. But surface speed and lure speed are two different things.
I just use my gps speed as a guideline.
