Hi, I am new to this site so please bear with me. My father recently passed away and left me with a boat that he planned on restoring before he got sick. I decided to go ahed with restoring it. The boat is pretty basic, a 1975 ebbitide 15 ft. the issue I am having is with the engine. the engine is not the one that came on the boat. I have never worked on an engine this old before and can not seem to find any information on this thing. It says 75hp Johnson super sea horse electromatic. ser# j 2602019 MODEL# v4al-17S. I checked compression and have between 88-92lb in all cyl. I got it running and it seems to shift ok. I was hoping some one with experience could poind me in the right direction. as far as what to look for on these as far as problem areas, general maintanance, ect. And would like to know the year of this to aid in ordering parts. My best guess is around a 62. Sorry for the long post and thank you ahead of time for any help.

Hi, Jerry.

Welcome to iboats. :)

V4AL-17 is a 1965, long shaft. outboard. Original spark plugs were Champion J4C gapped at .030", but many have switched to J6C.

Fuel mix is 50:1, and it is a thirsty bugger.
