Hi all. I have a dilemma...
I have my fathers old boat. He bought it new in 1960. It's an Alumacraft R-6, 12' with deck, windshield and forward steering wheel and controls (quite unique). It has the original 1962 Johnson 18. The trailer is a Sportsman. I had the trailer blasted and powder-coated a few years ago. The boat has always been stored and is in as good of shape as 60 years can bring. I have searched for a museum, but have had minimal success. I have zero idea of the value, and really just want to find a good home for it. I'm in my mid 60's and probably will not use it again. The rig runs perfect. Aside from the trailer restoration, the boat and motor are factory original. The wood transom has been refinished, but the wood is factory.

I'd appreciate any input on what I should be asking for it.
EDIT: Any help would be appreciated.

Regards.

I can't give you a price but very cool boat. Would love to have that at my dock, lol. I would say good luck but you won't need it as it will go fast. I bet you get lots of interest. This is the wrong time of year or at least in my area it is.

If you have all the proper paperwork and assuming the boat & trailer as a package. Try $2,900 and see where that goes.

I wish they were like classic cars, but they aren't. Ted's got ya' on the right track. Pretty little boat.

there are three types of buyers for old aluminum beauties like that.

buyer #1 has had a similar boat and is buying out of nostolgia. this is the buyer that will pay the $2900 or so that Ted mentioned

Buyer #2 wants to use the boat as wall art for a man-cave or a bar/grill. this buyer may spend a few hundred, however they will tell you they are looking at it for wall art.

Buyer #3 simply sees an old boat and doesnt care about beauty, the simple elegance, etc. this buyer will only offer a few hundred

you need to find buyer type #1

Be careful. you can ask what it would go for, however this is not a buy/sell site unless you list it. offering for sale is solicitation and against the rules. Suggest you post in the various CL's in WI (Appleton, Green Bay, Fondulac, Sheboygan and Milwaukee) as well as the twin cities and the quad cities. Also suggest you put on local Facetube market place.

Beautiful old boat. Your Dad took real nice care of it. I would be proud to have my Dad's boat.

My first inclination would be to contact the Antique Classic Boat Society or the Antique Outboard Motor Club. Those are 2 sources of potential buyers.

Look up ACBS.org and AOMCI.org. and see if there is a local chapter in your area. Contact that chapter and you might be surprised how many locals are interested. Both organizations also publish quarterly magazines with classified sections. One or both also have free "for sale" ads on their web sites.

As stated before, this is the wrong time of year to be selling. Its also the wrong era. Classic prices peaked about 15 years ago and have come down ever since. Its all about supply and demand.

Tell us exactly where you live and maybe I can look up a name and phone number.

I wasn't aware when I first posted that you couldn't run "for sales". My intent isn't necessarily to sell this boat here. I needed advice (which I've received). I really don't care to sell here. I've gotten several "threats" to not sell here, I get it. I'm just looking for suggestions.
