Old Carpet Removed

Hey folks,

I have just purchased a 1986 Sea Ray Seville bowrider. Love the boat - hate all the carpet everywhere. I want to remove the old carpet over time and refinish the interior sides of the glass hull where the carpet used to cover. Any suggestions on a process for doing this to end up with a nice looking, smooth finish? Should I sand down the hull and cover with gel coat or are there better alternatives for a nice finished look? I am very handy but new to this marine stuff? Thanks.

Personally I would buy some marine bondo and smooth it all out with that. Maybe somebody else can chime in with a better technique.

when you peel that carpet you will be faced with the residual glue......... depending on your next selected finish will determine how you remove that glue.

A high speed 4 1/2" grinder with a cup brush will make short work of it but ONE slip and you will bite right into the fiberglass.

Bob_VT - What would you recommend for a finish for the sides of the baot where the carpet was removed? For the bottom I'll probably use one of the many suggested textured products suggested in other posts?

You could use marine vinyl and glue that on...... right over the old carpet glue.
